Student answer (Band 6.0)
Asthma is becoming very common nowadays. The main reason behind this is people who smoke a a lot. They are not harming only themselves but also the people living near them.
I would fully agree to the statement that Smoking can cause serious illness and should be made illegal. There are so many disadvantages to the health of the people who smokes. The first and foremost is great damage to the lungs. Smoking affect the lungs in a worst way. For instance the lungs become black with full of smoke inside. Furthermore, smoking is quite becoming common among young generation. They do a smoking as they thought it has become a entertainment source for them They started believing to be a cool activity. As a result there are lot of cases of death in young age due to lung cancer.
Although purchasing cigarates is restricted activity but still in greed of money there are sellers who sell this things to the underage people. As a result there are number of minors who are doing smoking and ruining their health. To explain further, smoking not only ruin the health of themselves but also the people around them as smoke from cigerettes go inside them also. As a result there health also suffers. There are some minors who buy these packets at high cost just to satisfy their needs which is really illegal.
In conclusion, i would like to say that smoking is really injurious to health and it can cause cancer. So it should be banned and made illegal so that its effect can decrease to some extent and it can be a better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health risks and the impact on minors. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly regarding the health consequences. While the argument is clear, it lacks depth in exploring the counter-arguments or the practical implications of a total ban, which would be necessary for a higher band. The points are generally supported, but the explanation remains at a somewhat superficial level throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'As a result', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'To explain further' and 'Although purchasing cigarates is restricted activity but still'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'cigarates' and 'cigerettes', and some awkward collocations like 'do a smoking' and 'worst way'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic terms like 'bad', 'harming', and 'ruin'. To improve, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to public health and policy, and pay closer attention to spelling and word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people who smokes'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing ('they thought it has become a entertainment source'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
