Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, smoking is one of the main reasons of serious illnesses around the world. Smoking promotes various kind of diseases which leads to death of a being as well. To stop people from smoking is not easy and making it illegal is one of the approaches that should be taken. But it needs a combination of initiatives to stop this practice from beginning. I am agree with this statement and i will discuss it in next paragraphs.

It is very important to make something illegal that is not good for human being and as well as ecosystem. When something is not allowed in a region, it becomes more difficult to buy the product from anywhere. People like easier ways to get something and when the product is high priced, inconvenient, then people start to avoid it. But this is not enough, an individual can get rid of anything when they actually want it.

In my opinion, some educational campaigns should be introduced in which they can learn that how smoking is killing them from inside and getting more financially insecure. Local authorities should introduce some rehabilitation centres for public who wants to quit smoking, so that it helps to quit them faster. For instance, when smokers wants to quit smoking, they controls their emotions. But when they see someone or a pack at store, it becomes out of control and they start it again. But in centres, everyone is trying to get out of it, so they can also help each other and finally get rid of tobacco addiction.

In conclusion, making it illegal is one of the important initiatives to be taken but with the help of other measures it can be controlled faster and reduce diseases and pollution in the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of making smoking illegal. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that making it illegal would make products harder to obtain, the argument could be strengthened by discussing the potential social or economic consequences of such a ban. The suggestion of educational campaigns and rehabilitation centers is relevant, but the explanation of how these work in practice is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with more specific reasoning or examples rather than just stating the ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In my opinion' and 'In conclusion,' to guide the reader. However, the use of linking words is sometimes repetitive or slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the idea of making smoking illegal and the need for rehabilitation centers could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, which occasionally affects the flow of the argument. Improving the variety of cohesive devices would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'rehabilitation centres' and 'tobacco addiction.' However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'killing them from inside' and 'getting more financially insecure,' which sound slightly unnatural. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'various kind of diseases' (should be 'kinds'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary to express your points with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am agree' (should be 'I agree'), 'how smoking is killing them' (should be 'how smoking kills them'), and 'when smokers wants' (should be 'when smokers want'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for greater accuracy in subject-verb agreement and sentence construction, and attempt to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with fewer errors.
