Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding air pollution is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of how a ban would realistically solve the issue. The financial argument is more relevant but lacks specific examples or deeper analysis of the socioeconomic impact. While the position is consistent, the supporting points are underdeveloped, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the introduction and the body paragraphs could be smoother. The overall structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility and natural progression required for a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors, such as 'Cigarrate', 'cigarrates', 'surrondings', 'influnced', and 'disasterous'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'financial stability' and 'legal authorities', the range is limited. To improve, focus on accurate spelling and expanding your range of collocations to express your ideas with more precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'People who suffer from serious illnesses not only able to do' (missing verb), 'governments should be made smoking illegal' (incorrect passive voice), and 'smoking is injuries to health' (incorrect word form). These errors occur throughout the text and occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, you need to improve your control over complex sentence structures and ensure subject-verb agreement and correct word forms.
