Student answer (Band 6.0)

Smoking is injurious to health and the reason of many ailments in our body.According to me, Government should have to put a ban on it. I am totally agreed with this statement.

To start it first, there are many people in our nation addicted to smoking and they faces issues later in life. They suffer from illnesses such as Asthma , lung cancer, heart disease,Gum disease and tooth loss, But still people inhale it.Officials should have to impose a higher taxes on it as well as to increase the price more than healthy things. Moreover, the label on cigarette clearly shows that it is bad for health but people who uses it do not care about their health and family members who stops them to use.I can say that, Government should have to aware society about the impacts of smoking on our body. For example, Some people trying to get rid of smoking ,due to habit of inhaling daily they need support.so, it’s a need to open the centres for them where that can get help and proper medication. In addition to this, some people have a business to sell drugs without the permission and license. Government should have to follow stringent laws and sentenced them for longer periods of time with heavy fines. It will be helpful to reduce the use of drugs because smokers get it on lower prices from them in bulk.

In conclusion, In my opinion, it’s not just the responsibility of Government, people should have to focus more on their health rather than getting addicted to any of the drugs like smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you mention health risks and the need for government intervention, the argument regarding 'illegal drugs' in the second paragraph is slightly tangential to the main topic of smoking. To improve, ensure that every point directly supports the central argument. The ideas are relevant, but they could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is consistent throughout, but the conclusion is a bit brief and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To start it first', 'Moreover', and 'In addition to this'. However, some of these transitions feel a bit mechanical or unnatural. For instance, 'To start it first' is not standard phrasing. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'people who uses it do not care about their health and family members who stops them to use'. Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'addicted', 'ailments', and 'stringent'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'reason of many ailments' (should be 'cause of') and 'impose a higher taxes' (should be 'impose higher taxes'). Some phrasing is repetitive, and there are minor errors in word forms, such as 'people who uses it' instead of 'people who use it'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that word forms match the subject of the sentence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('people who uses it', 'family members who stops them'), article usage ('the Government' vs 'Government'), and awkward sentence construction ('Government should have to put a ban on it'). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that modal verbs like 'should' are used correctly without redundant 'have to' structures.
