Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking is a greatest threat to human health and caused various serious illnesses. It should be banned due to its hazards. I strongly agree to this point and in this essay I will explain different aspects of it.
Smoking is a part of our society from years. Previously, it was adapted by fewer people and not considered a norm. But modern society and social media has influenced public to such an extent that smoking is now considered normal routine habit. It is no longer considered as stigma. For example, young generation is adapting it at a very young age either by peer pressure or being influence by their ideal ones. And thus they are exposing themselves to dangerous substances from an early age which results in drastic damages to their health including long term lung conditions.
Smoking tobacco and other hazardous ingredients are now causing irreversible damages of the health and causing serious illnesses. For example, medical conditions related to lung is the at the top of the list that are caused by smoking which includes asthma,COPD, lung cancer etc. Moreover, not only lungs tobacco is affecting whole body as it is the major risk factor for many deliberating diseases like heart attack, stroke, all kinds of cancers and even depression and generalized anxiety disorders.
Widespread use of smoking, either in form of conventional cigarettes or new technologies like e-cigarettes or vapes carry a major threat to our society as a whole. They are affecting people physically, mentally and even socially. So there should be proper laws for check and balance of its widespread availablity and usage. And smoking should be illegal at least in public spaces for the start, so that a little burden from society is weaned off.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of banning smoking. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health impacts and social influence. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention that smoking should be illegal, the argument lacks depth regarding the practical implications of such a ban or counter-arguments. The essay tends to list health consequences rather than fully exploring the 'extent' of the agreement. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed reasoning or specific examples that go beyond general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the social context to health impacts and finally to a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'For example' is used twice in close proximity). Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used naturally would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'irreversible damages,' 'hazardous ingredients,' and 'generalized anxiety disorders.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'deliberating diseases' (likely meaning 'debilitating') and 'adapted by fewer people' (likely meaning 'adopted'). Additionally, 'smoking is a greatest threat' lacks the correct article. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, more precise and sophisticated word choices would elevate the score. Focus on learning common collocations to avoid awkward phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Smoking is a greatest threat' (article error), 'caused various serious illnesses' (tense inconsistency), and 'medical conditions related to lung is the at the top' (subject-verb agreement and article error). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and consistent verb tenses. Attempting more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy will also help.
