Student answer (Band 6.0)
I strongly agree with the statement that smoking is injurious to health and could lead to serious health problems so it should be banned from consuming. Ciggarates have become one of the most consumed items not only by older people but also by the younger generation these days which has become as issue of concern.
I believe that smoking has become a way to socialize for gen Zs nowdays since they find it as a way to look cool and superior. Also, i read an article in Bombay Times that smoking is now linked to causing cancers to most people in this world. Around 40% of the cancers are related to throat which are caused by ciggarates, cigars etc. Moreover,in rural areas because of lack of education and awareness they tend to continue it and hence become addicted to such an extent where it starts to cost their lives as well as their families. In most countries where it is considered illegal people still try to manage to smuggle them and sell which shows the desperate need of people to consume it regardless of the price. I recently came across a case in india where a man would sell anything to fullfill his desire of buying a pack of ciggarate but when it came to his wife who was injured and was in hospital he had no money to even get her operated this clearly shows the addiction and the effects it causes on the family.
So, i think there should be campaigns in all parts of tye world to spread awareness against these especially in rural and uneducated areas so that they become aware. Moreover, government should impose heavy taxes on buying and selling of these so that its usage will become less and negative one day.People should also talk to individuals who they see consuming them and spread knowledge because it will become a better place to live in only if we get united against it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and strong stance on whether smoking should be made illegal. The position is maintained throughout the response, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the social pressure among Gen Z, health consequences including throat cancer, and the economic toll of addiction on families. However, some arguments tend to overgeneralize or drift into anecdotes rather than fully extended logical reasoning. For example, the personal anecdote about the man prioritizing cigarettes over his injured wife supports the thesis of severe addiction, but the overall development lacks a deeper analysis of the socio-economic implications of a total ban. Thus, the response fulfills the requirements for Band 6.5 or a solid Band 6, where the task is addressed with relevant ideas, though some are slightly under-developed or anecdotal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with clear attempts at paragraphing and sequencing ideas. The essay begins with an introduction outlining the student's stance, moves into body paragraphs containing arguments and examples, and concludes with recommendations. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Also,' and 'So,' are used, but they are sometimes mechanical or overused, and punctuation errors around these conjunctions disrupt smooth progression. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as using 'these' or 'it' without clearly established antecedents, leading to minor tracking issues for the reader. Paragraphing is present, but the middle body paragraph is overly dense and covers multiple distinct ideas—such as rural education, smuggling, and the personal anecdote—without adequate internal transitions. These limitations place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'injurious', 'superior', 'smuggle', and 'fulfillment' (implied by 'fullfill'). However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('Ciggarates', 'nowdays', 'india', 'fullfill', 'tye') and word-form issues ('banned from consuming' instead of 'banned' or 'prohibited') that detract from the overall quality. Word choice is occasionally imprecise, such as 'cause cancers to most people in this world.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central arguments clearly and allows the reader to follow the train of thought without severe impedance, the frequency of spelling and collocation slips prevents the response from reaching Band 7.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'Moreover, in rural areas because of lack of education and awareness they tend to continue it...' However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are run-on sentences and comma splices, such as '...serious health problems so it should be banned from consuming. Ciggarates have become...' Capitalization errors are also frequent (e.g., lowercase 'i', lowercase 'india'). While complex structures are attempted, they are often accompanied by punctuation and agreement errors that occasionally require the reader to re-read. The proportion of error-free sentences is not high enough to secure a Band 7, but communication is rarely impeded, making Band 6 an appropriate descriptor.
