Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking is common habit in many countries, but it is injurious to health. Some people believe that smoking should be made illegal because of its harmful effects. I strongly agree that smoking should be restricted more strictly.
First of all, smoking is a major cause of serious illnesses, including lung cancer, heart problems and breating issues. It can not effect the person who smoke but also the person who do not smoke can be effected by the passing in and breating in second hand smoke which according to many experts is more harmful. Making smoking illegal therefore create a more healthier enviornment for childern and other people.
Secondly, making smoking illegal can save future of so many young ones as they will not get addicted to this and start avoiding this. Along with this it can also encourge current smokers to stop this unhealthy habit.
Thirdly, if there is a ban on smoking then it will help to save future of so many families because somkers spend more than half of their earning on smoking and they do not bother to take care of their families. If somking becomes illegal they will definitely think before spending their money on it and they can save their money and use that money for the wellbeing of their familes.
In conculsion, I would like to reiterate that smoling should be made illegal. It can cause serious illness, harm to other people through second hand smoke and placed and additional burdern on families and they have to suffer if even one person is addicted in the family. Therefore, baning smoking can prevent both indivaidual and society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether smoking should be made illegal. The writer strongly agrees and supports this stance with relevant arguments regarding health risks, passive smoking, and financial burdens on families. Ideas are extended throughout the body paragraphs, though some points, such as the impact on young people, remain slightly repetitive. The development is sufficient for a Band 6.5 or 7.0, but the over-generalisation in stating that smokers spend more than half their earnings without taking care of their families slightly limits the depth. Overall, the task is properly addressed and the position is consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is structured with an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing a clear logical progression overall. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the arguments, such as 'First of all', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly'. However, referencing and paragraphing show some mechanical faults. For instance, some sentences are awkwardly joined, and referencing pronouns like 'it' in 'It can not effect the person who smoke' lack precise clarity. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but the internal cohesion needs smoother transitions and more accurate referencing to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'injurious', 'second hand smoke', and 'addicted'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('breating', 'enviornment', 'childern', 'encourge', 'somkers', 'somking', 'conculsion', 'smoling', 'placed', 'indivaidual', 'baning') and word-choice errors ('more healthier', 'so many young ones', 'additional burdern'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('It can not effect the person who smoke', 'childern and other people'), preposition misuse, and awkward phrasing ('placed and additional burdern'). Complex structures often contain errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. While communication is maintained, the density of grammatical slips places this response firmly at the Band 5.0 level.
