Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether smoking should be made illegal and presenting an opinion, albeit with some contradictions and lack of full development. The introduction outlines what harms are created and measures to be taken, and the conclusion clearly states the writer's position that 'smoking should banne in every countries'. However, the body paragraphs mix arguments for a ban with statements suggesting government should not ban it easily and that it should be phased out gradually. While main ideas are present, such as health risks and economic impacts, the development is limited and sometimes repetitive, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, though the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in stance and underdeveloped points. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as the awkward transitional phrase 'As far as restricing smoking is concerned'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph cohesion is weak due to disjointed sentences like 'smoking creates barmful effect'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen with pronouns such as 'they' in 'A person who smoke they are unable'. Overall, the organization shows some structure, but the lack of clear overall progression and flawed cohesion aligns with a Band 5.0 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally hinder understanding. Examples include 'completly bann', 'hart diseases', 'resiptory problems', 'societu', and 'habitualise'. While the writer attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to health and smoking, the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. Errors such as 'barmful effect' and 'resonsinly' demonstrate a weak control of word formation and spelling. Because the vocabulary limitations and errors cause some difficulty for the reader without completely obscuring the message, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting predominantly of simple and frequently faulty complex sentence structures. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and tense usage, such as 'A person who smoke they are unable', 'people forgets how much money spent', and 'smoking should banne in every countries'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and commas throughout the text. While simple sentences are sometimes understandable, attempts at more complex structures almost invariably result in significant errors that cause difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptors closely.
