Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking addiction can cause severe illnesses. As a result, smoking should be made illegal. I agree with this idea to some extent. I firmly believe that it would be very difficult for some people who have been smoking for many years to quit.
I think, long-term smokers find it very tough with immediate ban of smoking. It also can cause them some sicknesses. Because their bodies are addicted to tabacoo for many years. I believe this problem can be solved by some lenient ways. For instance, New Zealand once introduced legislation that would have prohibited the sale of cigarettes to people born on or after 1 January 2009, but the policy was repealed before it came into effect. In addition, strict rules on selling vapes and cigarettes to minors must necessary in each country. For example, in Canada there strict rule that no one can sell these products to anyone who is under 18.
Furthermore, governments can hold many campaign to spread awareness. They can use fancy posters and videos for younger generations to help them understand, drawbacks of this kind of bad habbits. Moreover, government can introced new syllabus which can teach them and educate to never do these sorts of addictions. Authorities can also support in selling of nicotine which is can help smokers to quit smoking.
In conclusion, I agree with the view that smoking is very bad fot the health. But, Immediate ban can be very stressful for some people. That can be solved by alter ways, such as nicotine that help in quit smoking. I think, instead of making it illegal, government should try to make them quit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses the prompt by discussing the extent to which smoking should be made illegal, presenting a clear position that while smoking is harmful, an immediate ban is impractical. The position is maintained throughout the response. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as the New Zealand legislation and Canadian age restrictions on vapes and cigarettes. However, some arguments, such as the support for nicotine products, are slightly underdeveloped and could be extended further. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with logical paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion clearly. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For instance', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional abrupt transitions between sentences, such as moving from the Canadian example directly into government campaigns, prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Overall, the organization is logical and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'legislation', 'prohibited', and 'awareness'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'tabacoo' instead of tobacco, 'habbits' instead of habits, 'introced' instead of introduced, and 'alter' instead of alternative. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they restrict the lexical score. The appropriate use of some topic-specific vocabulary secures a solid Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'find it very tough with immediate ban', 'must necessary in each country', and 'support in selling of nicotine which is can help'. Punctuation is also occasionally problematic, such as unnecessary commas and fragments. These errors indicate a lack of precise control over complex structures, aligning best with a Band 5.5.
