Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
Your response responds to the task only minimally, primarily because it is severely underlength, containing only 101 words against the required 250-word minimum. While you present a clear position that you completely agree smoking should be banned, your ideas are extremely limited and under-developed. You touch upon reasons such as health problems and protecting youngsters from hazardous drugs, but these points are stated rather than extended and supported with relevant examples or explanations. To reach a higher level, you must write a much more substantial essay that fully develops your arguments with specific examples from your own knowledge or experience, thoroughly addressing all parts of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
Your writing shows some organization, as you attempt to structure your ideas with introductory remarks and transition phrases like 'To begin with'. However, there is no clear overall progression across the text, and the response is abruptly cut short. Cohesive devices are used minimally and somewhat inaccurately, such as 'why should made it illegal so people will do not have access', which disrupts the flow of ideas. Paragraphing is also disrupted, with your main body points cramped together rather than properly separated. To improve, you need to structure your essay into distinct, logical paragraphs and use a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices to guide the reader smoothly through your arguments.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms such as 'health issues', 'drug consumption', and 'hazaradous'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as using 'pupils' instead of 'people' or 'students', and spelling mistakes like 'hazaradous' and 'prspective'. Furthermore, phrases like 'drug consumption' are imprecise when applied specifically to smoking and tobacco. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate a wider variety of less common lexical items with greater precision, ensuring correct spelling and natural collocations related to health and public policy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Your response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, and your attempts at complex sentences often contain frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are noticeable grammatical issues throughout, including subject-verb agreement errors, incorrect verb forms, and missing prepositions or articles, such as in 'human beings on regular basis' and 'why should made it illegal'. Punctuation and run-on phrasing also require attention, as seen in comma splices like 'smoking is very dangerous to our health, can cause serious health problems'. To improve your grammatical score, you should work on producing a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with greater accuracy, ensuring proper tense control and structural integrity.
