Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often argued that smoking cause serious illness .Some people believed it is true , I strongly agree with this viewpoint . This essay will explain my position by discussing two main reasons supporting my opinion . The primary reason I strongly agree is that smoking cause various diseases . This is because there is lot of injurious things are present in the formation of smoking products like nicotine and tobacco etc . For instance , majority of us has been consuming smoking products in normal routines . These habbits of smoking cause various effects on the functiong system of body . Consequently , smoking has varoius bad efffects on our healths . therefore , smoking is vary injurious to our health and cause serious illness . Another compelling reason I agree is that people take smoking items which are illegal and in response cops take legal action against them . In other words , the smoking items like which are illegal has been transfered in balck ways to the consumers which are much more dangerous then tobacco and other smoking items . These cause serious diseases and make the consumer fully dependent on them . A good example of this is smokers cannot get rid of these habbits because it make them fully dependent on them . As a result , a lot of diseases came through this process like cancer , lungs problem , asthma and other serious diseases which can lead to the death . Therfore , smoking is very injorious to the health and should be made illegal . In conclusion , I strongly agree that smoking can cause seriuos illness ans should be made illegal . This is because of the products used in the formation of smoking are very harmful and cause various diseases which can lead to the immediate death . By considering these points ,I firmly agree that this persepective will be more beneficial and pracical .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that smoking should be made illegal due to health risks and illegal distribution. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and repetitive, which keeps the development constrained. For instance, the discussion on harmful substances simply repeats phrases like 'injurious to our health' and 'cause serious illness' without fully extending the argument with deep explanations or varied examples. The second main body paragraph attempts to introduce the notion of illegal black market items, but the reasoning remains underdeveloped and difficult to follow. To move higher, the writer needs to expand on fully rounded arguments with more precise examples rather than restating the same core idea multiple times in different ways.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body points, and conclusion, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are frequently repetitive and mechanical, such as relying heavily on formulas like 'Another compelling reason I agree is that' and 'As a result'. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in sentences like 'the smoking items like which are illegal has been transfered in balck ways to the consumers which are much more dangerous', where pronouns and connectors fail to link ideas smoothly. To improve in this criterion, the writer should employ a wider and more natural variety of transition words and ensure that sentences logically flow from one to the next without abrupt shifts.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word form, spelling, and collocation that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, such as 'habbits' instead of habits, 'functiong system' instead of functioning system or bodily functions, 'varouus bad efffects', 'healths', and 'balck ways' for black market. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'compelling reason' and 'dependent', inaccurate word choices and frequent spelling slips restrict the range. To achieve a higher band, the student must broaden their vocabulary range, learn correct word pairings, and pay closer attention to standard English spelling and morphological forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are recurrent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'smoking cause serious illness' and 'majority of us has been consuming'. Punctuation is also problematic, marked by frequent stray spaces before commas and periods. Grammatical inaccuracies appear throughout the text, including article misuse ('in balck ways') and preposition errors, which require the reader to slow down to grasp the intended meaning. To progress, the writer needs to practice constructing accurate complex sentences with reliable subordinate clauses and improve control over basic grammatical agreements and punctuation.
