Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear from the opening: “I completely agree” that smoking should be illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including cancer, addiction, respiratory harm and effects on sperm count. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with specific examples. The claim that governments should run awareness campaigns also shifts from the question of making smoking illegal without explaining how the two approaches relate. The conclusion restates your view but adds little development. The response is 57 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons. Extend each main point with explanation or a relevant example, and address why prohibition is preferable to other measures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Additionally,” and a conclusion beginning “In conclusion.” This makes the main position and supporting points reasonably easy to follow. Some links, however, feel mechanical or do not show the relationship between ideas clearly. For example, “Hence” introduces the claim that smoking should be illegal, but the preceding reference to Saudi Arabia does not explain the example or establish its relevance. The first paragraph also moves from the harms of smoking to addiction and then to awareness campaigns without developing the connections. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each example supports your argument; this would make progression more convincing and cohesion less dependent on linking phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “harmful substances,” “addicted,” “respiratory organs” and “life span,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts less clear, such as “cigratttes,” “awarenes campiagns,” “negtively effects” and “illegat.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “people are more towards the things” and “marking smoke as illegal” do not communicate your meaning idiomatically. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. For instance, you could write “people are increasingly engaging in unhealthy habits” and “make tobacco products illegal,” while using precise terms such as “smoking-related diseases.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main ideas using mostly straightforward sentence patterns, and you attempt some longer structures, such as “Most of the people get addicted to it and they found really hard to leave this habit.” However, the range is limited, and errors in these attempts can make the reader pause. Examples include the missing subject in “they found really hard” (they find it really hard), the agreement error in “Our young generation … effects,” and the incomplete construction “This essay I will provide main reasons.” There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “It is a cancer causing element which is harmful to a healthy lifestyle.” Practise building accurate complex sentences with because, although and which, and check subject–verb agreement and articles.
