Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent days, smoking has become serious concern globally which affects a lot of people's health. Smoking creates health problems such as caridiac conditions, pulmonary diseases, etc. and this should be banned. I strongly agree with this view that it can cause severe health issues, so it should be made illegal.
To begin with, smoking is very harmful for the society and environment. This can be affects individuals health, some people cannot even stand beside peron who is smoking, also passive smoking is more dangerous than peron who is actually smoking. Additionally, cigarates have harmful toxic material which affects their own health, this leads to serious pulmonary diseases such as asthma, cardiac pulmonary diseases, and breathing issues. Besides this, smoke creates pollution in the air which is also a big problem as it affects global warming and climate changes. For example, many old people who have trouble in breathing they avoid going out as they have fear of getting ill. As a result, smoking is dangerous for human and surroundings.
Moreover, most people smoke in public areas, clubs, and bars which affects people's well-being though authorities should be made illegal. Although smoking in public is dangerous for children as well as elderly people whose immunity is not strong enough, government should banned smoking in public places such as parks, community centers, and family oriented events. If authorities take strict actions on smoking, pollution and health issues can be resolved. Governments should not only make strict rules and regulations but they also should punish them with large amount of fine. One example is that london governments made some laws where smokers will be punish by fine though it does not affects someone's life. Additionally, government should arrange public awarness campaigns and seminars to address this issue.
In conlcusion, smoking is dangerous for both person who is smoking as well as others. Smoking cause serious health isseus which affects individual's health and surroundings, so governments should take serious actions to solve this problem by making laws and regulations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that smoking should be illegal, and the conclusion returns to this view. You address relevant consequences, including illness, passive smoking, effects on older people, and pollution, and you suggest government action. This covers the task well at this level. However, the response focuses more on harms and restrictions in public places than on whether smoking itself should be made illegal. The London example is also vague and does not clearly show how the law works or supports a total ban. To strengthen the argument further, explain the distinction between banning smoking in public and prohibiting tobacco use altogether, then develop one or two examples with clearer evidence or reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally group related points, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Although smoking in public is dangerous …, government should banned” does not express a clear relationship between its clauses, and “this” in “This can be affects individuals health” has an uncertain reference. Several ideas are also crowded into long sentences. Use clearer sentence boundaries and link each example directly to the claim it supports; vary transitions rather than relying mainly on formulaic openers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “passive smoking,” “pulmonary diseases,” “public areas,” and “regulations,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “immunity” and “well-being.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “caridiac,” “peron,” “cigarates,” and “awarness” are examples. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “serious concern globally,” “harmful toxic material,” and “large amount of fine.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations as complete phrases. More precise terms for the proposed policy would also help distinguish a public-place smoking ban from making smoking illegal altogether.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “which,” “as,” and “although.” This gives the response some structural variety, but control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction are frequent enough to affect clarity. Examples include “This can be affects,” “government should banned,” “smoking cause,” and “it does not affects.” There are also problems with articles and possessives, as in “serious concern” and “individuals health.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, especially after modal verbs such as “should” and “can.” Shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would make your complex ideas easier to understand.
