Student answer (Band 5.5)

In today's rapidly changing world, smoking can cause serious health diseases and it should be made illegal has become a matter of considerable debate. This essay will examine the main causes of this issue before suggesting some effective solutions.

I totally agree that, smoking should be made illegal. One of the main reason is that, smoking can cause health disease such as, lungs, heart diseases and also mouth ulcer. As a result, this leads to serious impact on health. For example, if a person smoke in daily basis this could cause a damage their organs. Human function not properly work. Futhermore, it could cause respiratory issues like, asthma. Human can't breath properly due to lack of oxygen. Therefore, it is evident that smoking can cause serious illnesses on human health and should be made illegal.

On the other hand, smoking also cause a health issue to another person. In addition, there are two types of smokers, one is active and second is passive. For example, active smoker is who can smoke itself and can cause its lungs damage and also imapct on his overall health and the second one is passive who is not smkoing but it's cigarette smoke goes to passive smoker and this smoke can't be filtered through its nose it's directly will go to the lungs. As a e result, active smoker also have a disease but passive also take the disease through active smokers. That is saw in my hospital as a my experience.

In conclusion, smoking should be made ban in all our countries because it can cause a serious impact on health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that smoking should be illegal, and you give relevant reasons, including harm to smokers and the effects of passive smoking. The hospital observation also provides a personal example. This addresses the central question, but the discussion is unevenly developed. The first body paragraph explains several health effects, while the second spends considerable space defining active and passive smokers without explaining in depth why these effects justify a legal ban. The introduction also promises to examine “causes” and “solutions,” which does not match the task or the essay’s actual argument. To strengthen the response, explain the case for prohibition more fully and address a possible counterargument, such as personal freedom or enforcement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main ideas generally follow a sensible order. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between points. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, and some connections are unclear. “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the second paragraph adds another reason to agree. The long explanation of passive smoking also repeats the idea that both groups are harmed rather than moving the argument forward. Improve cohesion by using transitions that reflect the actual relationship between ideas, grouping related points, and making references such as “this smoke” or “this” more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “passive smoker,” “respiratory issues,” “organs,” and “overall health,” so the reader can follow the general argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “health diseases” is not a natural phrase, “serious impact on health” is repeated, and “made ban” is not the correct expression. Spelling errors such as “Futhermore,” “imapct,” and “smkoing” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use precise health-related terms and vary repeated wording; checking spelling and learning common collocations will make your argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “As a result” and “Therefore.” However, control is inconsistent, particularly in clauses with subjects and verbs, articles, and sentence boundaries. Examples include “One of the main reason is that, smoking…” and “if a person smoke in daily basis,” where agreement and sentence construction are faulty. “Human function not properly work” also makes the intended meaning difficult to follow. Punctuation creates further problems, such as the missing space after “debate” and commas separating subjects from clauses. Practise building accurate sentences around one clear subject and verb, then add subordinate clauses only when you can control their grammar.
