Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today era smoking cigarettes can cause various health issues such as lung cancer and heart disease.I strongly agree with statment that smoking need restriction,Although i did not believe that permanent ban is a proper solution of this problem.

On the one hand smoking is the global health issue in all over the globe. It effect human body in various way. Morever, this is even cause a health related issue to others. For example, juvenilles did not smoke but if they live with a smoker it may cause breathing hurdles to them also. Therefore, strict restriction are vital to oppose on smoking.Government need to take proper action on this.

On the other hand, proper ban is not the solution of this issue.Suppose, if authorities close all the shops and factories of ciggarettes they will distribute in illegal way. Also, people can go out of they to buy it and even many of them has been ready to higher price. So, complete ban is not the way to tackle this problem. In addition, everyone has his own freedom and everyone know what is good and bad for them, however they need to understand this only which place and how much consumption is suitable. If talking about government, just put a higher taxes and price on cigarettes and peopke can learn the value of money.

In my opnion, children need to learn about the causes of smoking from eraly age. Moreover, authoities need to aware young peopl and make rehab centre so they can get out of this.

In conclusion, although smoking is injurious to health, but proper ban is not the solution of this,we just need to aware about the causes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you support restrictions on smoking but oppose a complete ban, which directly answers the question. You give relevant reasons, including second-hand smoke affecting children, the risk of an illegal market, personal freedom, and education or rehabilitation as alternatives. These points show good coverage of the issue. However, some are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that higher taxes will teach people “the value of money” needs a clearer link to reducing smoking, and the education and rehabilitation suggestions are brief. To develop the response further, explain how each proposed measure would work and support at least one point with a specific example. The position is clear, but the ideas are not yet consistently extended and supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, a paragraph of further recommendations, and a conclusion. The progression from health harms to the drawbacks of prohibition is logical, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Some linking is mechanical, however, with repeated “Moreover,” “Also,” and “So,” and several ideas are joined in long sentences without clear punctuation. References such as “this” in “this is even cause a health related issue” are not always precise. Use a wider range of links, make the relationship between each example and its claim explicit, and separate distinct points into clearer sentences to make cohesion more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including “lung cancer,” “heart disease,” “illegal way,” “higher taxes,” and “rehab centre.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “strict restriction” and “complete ban.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “statment,” “juvenilles,” “ciggarettes,” and “peopke” are examples. Several combinations are also unnatural, including “breathing hurdles,” “oppose on smoking,” and “aware about the causes.” This limits precision and flexibility. Build a reliable set of collocations for health and policy arguments, and proofread spelling and word forms; for example, use “breathing difficulties,” “tackle smoking,” and “raise awareness of the risks.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if authorities close all the shops … they will distribute in illegal way” and a contrast introduced by “although.” These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms recur. For instance, “It effect human body” needs a correctly formed verb and article, while “everyone know” and “strict restriction are” show agreement problems. The opening also joins clauses with a comma in “I strongly agree …, Although…,” and the conclusion repeats an “although” construction without completing it correctly. Practise accurate clause joining and subject–verb agreement, then check articles and verb forms in each sentence.
