Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, people suffer from major health problems because of smoking. All the private and government hospitals are crowded due to smoke. Smoking is not only harmful for those who are doing this but it also affect other individuals which are near to that person who smokes. From my perspective, It should be ban by the government for the well-being of humanity.

Smoking can create liver problems and it could damage the body of chain smokers. A person who smokes regularly, their family also suffer from illness like, asthama. Asthama cause from smoking, which will also a cause of death. But a person who is habitual of smoking, cannot leave it easily. Moreover, smoking is major reason of the air pollution. If the air of any place is polluted, the people of that place can't live healthy life. Not only younger face these problems, childrens also affect from this. For instance, the children can easily inflenced by any disease due to weak immune system.

They government should take serious step by doing smoking illegal. To reduce smoking, they initiate the centres who helps the public to keep away from smoking. They should also impose heavy penalties on those who smokes in public places. These steps are neccessary for a healty environment. Any country, which don't have such rules their new generation suffer in many ways. So, these steps are significant for a developed country.

In conclusion, Due to continous increase in health risk, smoking should completely ban. The government should close these kind of business, and make illegal to buy and sell of such harmful products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening paragraph: you support making smoking illegal, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You address health effects, harm to others, pollution, and possible government action, so the response covers the main parts of the question. The examples of children being vulnerable and penalties in public places are relevant. This meets the task well, with some elements showing the fuller development expected at a stronger level. However, several claims are asserted rather than explained: for example, the link between smoking and liver problems is not supported, and the point about children being influenced by disease is unclear. Develop fewer reasons with more precise explanation and examples, and clarify whether you advocate a complete ban or targeted restrictions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on harms, a paragraph on government measures, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from the effects of smoking to possible solutions, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. “A person who smokes regularly, their family also suffer” does not clearly establish the relationship, while “Not only younger face these problems” is difficult to follow. The final paragraph also introduces closing measures without fully connecting them to the earlier proposal for support centres and penalties. Use clearer referencing and make each paragraph’s central point explicit before adding supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “air pollution,” “immune system,” “heavy penalties,” and “well-being,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the expression imprecise. Phrases such as “body of chain smokers,” “cause from smoking,” and “close these kind of business” are not natural in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “asthama,” “inflenced,” “neccessary,” and “continous.” Aim to learn topic-specific phrases in complete collocations, and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would help distinguish direct health effects, second-hand smoke, and broader environmental impacts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If the air of any place is polluted…” and a relative clause beginning “Any country, which…”. These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur often enough to make several sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include “it also affect” instead of “it also affects,” “It should be ban” instead of “It should be banned,” and “The government should close these kind of business.” Subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and plural forms need particular attention. Some sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, such as the capitalisation after “In conclusion.” Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject, correctly formed verb, and agreement.
