Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is offten cliamed that smoking is injurious to our health and authorities should consider it as illegal substance.I completely agree with this statement because smoking not only have a detrimental impact on the passive smokers but it also effects on others.
Liver cancer is the major issues society is facing these days because of smoking. People start smoking just for pleasure, but without knowing that they get addictied to this and they become chain smokers. As chain smokers unable to resist themselve from smoking, which ultimately damage their health. For example, million of people around the world, are suffering from this dangerous disease. In addition, smokers not only impact their own health but they also affect nearby people, as they inhale the smoke from the air. It is, therefore, clear that smokers effect their health as well as people around them.
The best approach to halt this injurious substance is a complete ban. If government consider smoking as illegal product, there may be less production of cigeerates. Although companies printed all the required information and dangers related to the smoking on its packaging. Despite reading the caution and its serious consequences, people are still consuming it every single day. Thus, it is clear the best approach to stop this is make it illegal.
In conclusion, althoug some individuals are addictied to smoking and they are unwilling to stop this addiction, this can harmfully impacted their health. Government should completely stop the supply of caggerates by considering it illegal.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: “I completely agree,” and the conclusion reinforces the view that cigarettes should be made illegal. You give relevant reasons, including harm to people exposed to second-hand smoke and the limited effect of warning labels. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are asserted more than explained. The claim that liver cancer is “the major issues” caused by smoking is not supported, and the example of millions suffering from the disease is too general to develop the argument. The response also contains 248 words, two below the required minimum. To strengthen the response, explain how a ban would reduce smoking and support each main reason with a specific example or clearer explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas generally follow a sensible order, moving from the health effects of smoking to a proposed ban, and linking phrases such as “For example,” “In addition” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Although companies printed all the required information…” is followed by “Despite reading the caution…” without a clear grammatical or logical link to the preceding point. The first body paragraph also repeats the idea that smoking harms smokers and nearby people. Improve progression by giving each paragraph one clear focus and using references and transitions that show precisely how each sentence supports the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “detrimental impact,” “passive smokers,” “chain smokers,” “complete ban” and “serious consequences.” These choices show an attempt to discuss health effects and government action rather than relying only on basic words. However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision, such as “oftten,” “cliamed,” “addictied,” “cigeerates” and “caggerates.” Phrases such as “injurious substance” and “illegal product” are also awkward in this context. Aim to use accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, refer consistently to “tobacco products” or “cigarettes” and describe smoking as “harmful” or “damaging to health.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because,” a concessive structure with “Although,” and a relative clause in “people around the world, are suffering.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “smoking not only have” instead of “smoking not only has,” “they get addictied” instead of “they become addicted,” and the incomplete construction “As chain smokers unable to resist themselve.” The sentence beginning “Although companies printed…” is also not properly connected to the next sentence. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, complete sentence structure and clause connections, then proofread each sentence for articles, plurals and punctuation.
