Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is true that smoking is a major concerning health issue in the world. It has been argued by some people that severe sickness can be caused by smoking therefore, smoking should be banned. I am completely agree with this notion due to the wellness of individuals and safe environment. I will discuss these reasons in upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, smoking cause life-threatening diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, lungs cancer and asthma. The treatment of such types of illnesses is too expensive. Studies showed that people who can not afford expenses for their treatment are dying everyday. Therefore, banning the use of cigarettes can make people to adopt healthier lifestyle. Moreover, smoking is not only hazardous for the person who is smoking but also for the non-smoker, this is called passive smoking. When people smoke at public places, the children and old people inhale harmful chemicals which cause respiratory problems. Hence, prohibiting cigarettes can lead a safe and healthy environment.
Furthermore, public health should be the main priority of government. The higher authorities can make strict rules against smoking and by organizing awareness campaigns. In this way, people can stay away from serious illnesses. However, some people believe everyone has their own life and freedom to do anything, Authorities should focus on the wellbeing of public.
In conclusion, I believe ban on smoking can be fruitful for making healthy humans and safe environment. So, government should take effective measures to reduce smoking and protect future generation from its dangerous effects.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I am completely agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion: you support making smoking illegal. You address the main issue with relevant reasons, including serious illness, treatment costs, passive smoking, and the government’s role, and you give some explanation of how these affect individuals and the public. This covers the task well. To strengthen the response further, develop the counterargument you introduce—personal freedom—and explain more directly why a ban should outweigh that concern. Some claims, such as people dying because they cannot afford treatment, are broad and would be more convincing with a specific example or clearer qualification. Overall, the ideas are relevant and supported, though some are generalised.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression from health effects to government action is logical, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This is a coherent arrangement. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is occasionally unclear. For example, the sentence beginning “However, some people believe…” introduces an opposing view but then moves abruptly to “Authorities should focus…” without fully explaining the contrast. The phrase “I will discuss these reasons in upcoming paragraphs” is also unnecessary signposting. Use more precise referencing and connect each claim to the next with clearer explanation to make cohesion more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “life-threatening diseases,” “passive smoking,” “harmful chemicals,” and “awareness campaigns.” These choices make the main points clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “major concerning health issue,” “severe sickness,” “healthy humans,” and “make people to adopt.” “Lungs cancer” is also an inaccurate form. These slips do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn vocabulary in common combinations—for example, “a major public health concern,” “serious illnesses,” and “encourage people to adopt a healthier lifestyle”—and check word forms when using medical terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect clauses and a relative clause in “the children and old people inhale harmful chemicals which cause respiratory problems.” Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence structure and verb forms recur. Examples include “I am completely agree” (use “I completely agree”), “smoking cause” (subject–verb agreement), and “can lead a safe and healthy environment” (the sentence needs a grammatical construction such as “can lead to a safer, healthier environment”). The sentence joining the opposing view to “Authorities should focus…” also needs clearer punctuation and structure. These errors show that complex forms are being attempted, but control is not yet consistent. Review agreement, infinitive patterns, articles, and sentence boundaries.
