Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many research conducted in recent years, Smoking has been found as a leading cause for cancer and lungs related issues. Many countries, has taken measures to eradicate the use of this substance by making this illegal to sell or use. I completly agree with this decision as I believe that it not only causes disease but also hampers the peace of the family which I will be discussing further in this essay.
Smoking has been one of the major cause of cancer because of the element nicotine which can be found in cigrattes. Reports shows that this harmful substance damages the lungs of the smoker as well as the lungs of the bystander who has never smoked once in their life. In the recent years, death toll related to smoking has surpassed the count of normal death in many countries. However, to overcome this difficult situation governments should come up with measures that is highly effective as well as it shouldn't have negative effects to the health of smokers. Many argrue that, smoking is highly addictive and if the government bans it without a proper measure then it might face a serious backlash. Due to which government should focus on rehabilitation of the addicts and can be slowly cut the supply of the substance rather than cutting it completely.
In my point of view, government should follow appropriate measures to eradicate smoking completely from the society. Smoking not only causes illness, it also causes distress among family as smokers spend most of their income on their addiction because of that, they become unable to provide basic necessities to their family which impacts their quality of life.
At the end, I would like to get the attention of government to this issue which is growing everyday and has only negative impacts on the health and society. This problem can affect countries in various aspects such as manpower issue due to deterioting health of individuals, social disbalance due to daily conflict between family members. To avoid this situation for getting extreme, authorities should follow stratiegic measures to eradicate it from its root.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: “I completely agree,” and you give relevant reasons, including illness, harm to bystanders, and the financial and family effects of addiction. You also recognise a counterargument—that an immediate ban could provoke backlash—and suggest rehabilitation and a gradual reduction in supply. This addresses the task and shows some development beyond a one-sided response. However, the discussion shifts between making smoking illegal and managing addiction without clearly explaining what form a ban should take or how it would work. The claims about death rates and family conflict are also broad and would be stronger with a specific example or explanation. Develop these points more fully and connect each one directly to the proposed legal ban.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on health and policy, a paragraph on family effects, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from the harms of smoking to possible government action. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Due to which” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence, and the long sentence beginning “Many argue” combines the counterargument and proposed response in a way that is difficult to follow. The conclusion introduces manpower and social imbalance without developing these ideas earlier. Use clearer topic sentences, make references explicit, and ensure the conclusion summarises the main reasons rather than adding new claims.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “leading cause,” “rehabilitation,” “addiction,” and “basic necessities,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems that reduce precision, such as “cigrattes,” “argrue,” “deterioting,” and “stratiegic.” Some combinations are unnatural or vague: “lungs related issues,” “normal death,” and “social disbalance” do not express the intended meaning precisely. Repetition of “smoking,” “substance,” and “government” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; more precise terms would make the argument sound clearer and more formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses explaining causes and consequences, as in the sentence about nicotine damaging smokers’ and bystanders’ lungs. Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “Many countries, has taken measures,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “measures that is highly effective,” where the relative clause has the wrong verb form. The construction “can be slowly cut the supply” is also faulty, and several sentences are joined in ways that make their structure hard to follow. Review subject–verb agreement, clause construction, and sentence boundaries. More consistent control of these patterns would make your complex ideas easier to read.
