Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary era, It has been observed that a smoking can cause some chronic illnesses. It should be banned or made it illegal so consumption of tobacco will decrease eventually. If questioned I strongly agree with this opinion. The possible motives and explanation for my preference will be justified in the upcoming paragraphs with valid reasons and appropriate examples.

Scrutinising the facts from the grassroots level, the foremost one is that smoking can cause some life-threatning diseases like Lung cancer, Mouth ulcer, Mouth cancer and Apnea. For instance, according to World Health Organisation, they conducted reasearch on 90% of cases in Mumbai, India. They found out cigarette smoking is substantial reason for Lung cancer. On top of that, smoking contains some highly addictive substances like 'nicotine'. Moreover, cigarette smoking leads to many problems like it alleviate productivity and it will increase problems associated with breathing. Furthermore, It can be dangerous to consume cigarettes when someone is pregnant. It will leads to give a birth to defective child.

Additionally, smoking can cause a problem to a fellow person who is standing near you even. That is called ''Passive smoking". That is considerabily more harmful than actual smoking itself.

The reason for my inclination is that if government should impose more strict rules and regulation on smoke contain products, then and only it can be controlled. If they stop selling and producing the nicotine it will automatically limit the amount of consumers. If it will be illegal then any individual will think twice before they smoke.

Based on the aforementioned reasoning, I still agree with this statement. The authroties should ban the harmful products completely from the market to reduce serious illnesses.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening—“I strongly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including smoking-related illness, addiction, harm to pregnant people and passive smoking, and you attempt to support one point with a Mumbai example. This meets the task well overall. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that smoking “will leads to give a birth to defective child” needs a clearer account of the risk, and the passive-smoking point is not supported with an example or explanation. The proposal to ban production and sales also needs consideration of how a complete ban would work. Developing these points more precisely would make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on health effects, a paragraph on passive smoking and government action, and a conclusion. The reader can follow your main position, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally” and “Based on the aforementioned reasoning” help signal progression. At times, however, the organisation feels mechanical, particularly with several formal signposts in succession. The paragraph beginning “The reason for my inclination” combines policy proposals with the conclusion of your argument, while the passive-smoking paragraph is very brief. Clearer grouping of each main reason and more explicit links between evidence and claims would improve progression. Also ensure references such as “That” clearly identify the idea being discussed.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “chronic illnesses,” “addictive substances,” “productivity” and “passive smoking.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “Scrutinising the facts” and “aforementioned reasoning.” However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural and reduce precision: “life-threatning diseases,” “Mouth ulcer,” “alleviate productivity” and “smoke contain products” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “reasearch,” “considerabily” and “authroties” also affect accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional collocations rather than elaborate wording; for example, explain that smoking “reduces productivity” and refer to “tobacco products.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If it will be illegal then any individual will think twice.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some errors in articles, agreement, verb forms and sentence construction remain. Examples include “a smoking,” “It will leads,” and “That is considerabily more harmful,” where the verb form or sentence structure needs correction. In “if government should impose more strict rules … then and only it can be controlled,” the conditional construction is not well formed. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent. Practise accurate conditional patterns and check subject–verb agreement and articles; these corrections would make your varied sentences more controlled.
