Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Patel,
I am living next door and writing to raise a complain about late night music disturbance. It is been four weeks now and I am constantly, hearing loud music even after 10 pm which causing an inconveniency.
I am a third year university student and my final exam is coming up due to the loud voices I am unable to concentrate on my studies. It is a crucial time which can reform my career. I go to university in the morning and for my part time job after and night is the only time get to study.
I know the entertainment is important but I would really appreciate is you can be more considered and choose the different time of the day to play your instrument. If that cannot be accommodate then turn down the volume would make a grate difference.
I am hope you will consider my situation and take actions on the suggestion mention above.
Thank you,
Krupa.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the problem (late-night music), why it is a difficulty (impacting your studies and sleep during a crucial exam period), and suggested specific actions (playing at a different time or lowering the volume). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour. To improve, ensure that your opening and closing are fully consistent with the formal tone, and try to expand slightly more on the impact of the noise to fully develop your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'If that cannot be accommodate', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, and ensure that your referencing (e.g., 'the suggestion mention above') is grammatically accurate.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'inconveniency', 'crucial time', and 'appreciate'. However, there are several word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'raise a complain' (should be 'make a complaint'), 'loud voices' (should be 'loud music'), and 'considered' (should be 'considerate'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of collocations and checking word forms will help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'It is been four weeks' (should be 'It has been'), 'I am constantly, hearing' (unnecessary comma), 'if you can be more considered' (should be 'considerate'), and 'I am hope' (should be 'I hope'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs.
