Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Anilkumar,
I am writing to inform about the problems I have been facing for more than two weeks due to your inappropriate activities at your home. It is completely fine to play music at your house, albeit it is not harming anyone.
As a student, I have to study late night and concentrate on my forthcoming exam; however, due to over loud music, It does not only stagnating my concentration but also interrupting on my sleep, eventually affecting my overall personal life.
The main thing which catalyst this issue is playing music in night time; as, it is not appropriate do such activity during this period which can harm someone in a detrimental way.
I believe you should play your instrument in afternoon time, so it will not affect my studies and sleep. Furthermore, you should avoid playing your instruments with louder voice. I believe this will help you to find a pragmatic solution of this pressing issue.
I look forward to your prompt response at your earliest convenience.
Your sincerely,
Deep Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points: it identifies the problem (loud music), explains the impact (interrupted sleep and study), and suggests a solution (playing music in the afternoon at a lower volume). The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour, although the opening sentence is slightly aggressive. The ideas are clearly presented and the purpose of the letter is immediately obvious to the reader. To reach a higher band, ensure the tone remains consistently polite and avoid slightly accusatory phrasing like 'inappropriate activities,' which might be perceived as overly confrontational for a first-time request to a new neighbour.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problem from the proposed solution. Cohesive devices such as 'however,' 'furthermore,' and 'eventually' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'The main thing which catalyst this issue.' Improving the flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence. The use of referencing (e.g., 'this issue,' 'this will help') is generally clear and helps the reader follow the argument without confusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly. There are some attempts at more sophisticated language, such as 'forthcoming,' 'detrimental,' and 'pragmatic solution.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'catalyst this issue' (should be 'catalyzes' or 'causes') and 'louder voice' (should be 'higher volume'). Additionally, 'stagnating my concentration' is an incorrect collocation. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'inform about the problems' (missing 'you'), 'late night' (should be 'late at night'), 'It does not only stagnating' (should be 'it not only stagnates'), and 'do such activity' (should be 'to do'). The phrase 'albeit it is not harming anyone' is also used incorrectly in this context. While the meaning remains clear throughout, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the writing from being considered highly accurate. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage would be beneficial.
