Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr/ Mrs.Shah ,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I am continuously facing severe headache because of you are playing music at night at high volume due to which I cannot properly complete my sleep as well as studies schedule.
You play music that's not the problem but playing at night and that also at high volume leads to distress and disturbance in my schedule.I am not able to study too due these reason though I have exams from upcoming week .
I request you to avoid playing music at night time and If whenever you play please low down the volume so that it does not leads to hindernace to my study and sleep schedule.
I hope co operation and support from you !
Yours truly,
Gaurav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: it explains the problem (loud music at night), the impact (lack of sleep and study difficulties), and the requested action (lower the volume). However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which limits the development of ideas. While the purpose is clear, the brevity prevents a more polite and formal tone typical of a letter to a neighbour. To improve, you should expand on the impact of the noise and provide more detail regarding your upcoming examinations to better justify your request.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and repetitive. For example, the transition between the problem and the request is abrupt. The flow of ideas is somewhat mechanical, and the lack of length makes the progression feel rushed. Using more varied linking words or phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in light of this') would improve the logical flow and help connect your sentences more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is functional but basic. You rely on simple phrases like 'playing music' and 'not able to study'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'complete my sleep' (should be 'get enough sleep') and 'leads to hindernace' (spelling error and awkward phrasing). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to the context of noise complaints and academic pressure. The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility required for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'because of you are playing' (incorrect clause structure), 'due these reason' (should be 'due to these reasons'), and 'it does not leads to' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional usage.
