Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: explaining the problem (loud music), the impact on your studies (difficulty concentrating for exams), and the requested action (using headphones or stopping for two weeks). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, and the purpose is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the mention of exams is repeated across several sentences, which limits the depth of the response. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is developed with unique supporting details rather than restating the same information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure, moving from a polite introduction to the problem, the impact, and finally the request. Paragraphing is used, though the paragraph breaks could be more distinct to separate the introduction, the body of the complaint, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are present but somewhat basic (e.g., 'The problem is', 'This time is'). There is some repetition of phrases like 'I am asking you' and 'I hope', which makes the flow feel slightly mechanical. Using a wider variety of linking words would improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple phrasing such as 'ask me anytime' and 'no issue with music'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'effecting' instead of 'affecting' and 'moving in our colony' (which is not standard English for a residential area). To improve, try to incorporate more specific collocations related to noise complaints or academic pressure. The current range is sufficient to convey the message clearly, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing letter' (missing article), 'my studies to prepare for exams' (preposition error), and 'since last year' (tense usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing capital letters at the start of sentences and incorrect spacing around punctuation marks. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
