Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to express my concern about ascending noise pollution due to my current neighbours excessive music play which is becoming a major issue for me nowadays.
Everyday whenever I woke up a heavy sound bar with full volume going on my neighbouhood which makes me irritating sometimes. They settled in our area next to my house newly they don't know the actual discipline, rules or regulations of our colony. It majorily causing a big problem for me focusing on my studies and my final examinations is on the way. I feel frustrated somewhat and unable to pay attention on my studies.
I tried to connect with them numerous times but they are still not focusing the situation instead of this giving me lame excuses.
If the situation remain same I would like take strict action amongst them and to communicate with colony's head minister if they are not listening verbal command. I believe that they will take action as soon as possible
Your sincerely
Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is identified, the impact on studies is explained, and a desired action is proposed. However, the tone is inconsistent and occasionally aggressive, which is inappropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour. Phrases like 'take strict action amongst them' and 'head minister' are unclear and do not reflect the standard polite but firm tone required for this task. The ideas are relevant but could be developed with more natural phrasing to ensure the request is persuasive rather than confrontational.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical. Transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt, such as the jump from the description of the noise to the mention of the colony's rules. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the final paragraph where the subject of 'they' is ambiguous. Improving the use of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition' would help the flow of ideas significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and natural collocation. There are several awkward word choices, such as 'ascending noise pollution', 'heavy sound bar', and 'head minister'. The phrase 'lame excuses' is too informal for a letter of this nature. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word choice occasionally impede the clarity of the message. More attention should be paid to common collocations used in formal correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('whenever I woke up', 'my final examinations is'), incorrect verb forms ('majorily causing'), and punctuation errors (missing commas and incorrect sentence boundaries). The misuse of prepositions and articles is also noticeable throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
