Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: explaining the problem (loud music), the impact (studies and sleep), and the requested action (lowering the volume). The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour, although the threat to escalate the matter to the society secretary is quite abrupt. The ideas are relevant and clearly communicated, fulfilling the requirements of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear opening, body, and closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the problem from the proposed solution. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Also not only my studies' is slightly awkward, and the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied linking words. Overall, the message is easy to follow, but the cohesion lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message, but it lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'towere', 'enogh', 'dilute' (used incorrectly for 'distract'), 'privacya', and 'wounderful'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intent. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and checking spelling for common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I believe you are doing fine' (inappropriate phrasing), 'I would like to to tell you i am having' (repetition and capitalization issues), and 'If you wouldn't take reasonable step' (incorrect conditional structure). While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation limits the score.
