Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear neighbour,

I am writing this letter to inform you that about distraction and disturbuns facing while I am studying and sleeping respectively because of you loud noise of music at mid night.

I have been suffered from this cause since you moved here. In order to get the higher grades in my school I have to study and practice till late night. However, I can not get focus on my study as you play music at high voice which affect on my education. Secondly, I have to wake up early in the morning to reach the school on the time.

There are number of problems I am facing because of this situation. First of all, If I am not enough get sleep I could not concerntrate in classes on the next day in the school. As a result, It might be affect on understanding concepts lately. Another problem is that I cannot practice at late night as well so my overall education is getting weaker day by day. Thus I have face major problems in the future.

The first action is you can take is that you can close your all windows or doors closed and play music at lower voices. Another thing is to stop playing music in the late night.

Kind regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the problem, describing the impact on your studies, and suggesting a solution. Your tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the impact on your studies and sleep is mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct aspect of the situation rather than restating the same points. Despite this, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Secondly', and 'As a result' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs feels slightly disjointed because the content overlaps significantly. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph transitions smoothly into the next without repeating the same information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'distraction', 'concerntrate', and 'education'. However, there are several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'loud noise of music at mid night' (should be 'loud music at midnight') and 'get the higher grades' (should be 'get higher grades'). There are also spelling errors like 'disturbuns' and 'concerntrate'. Expanding your range of vocabulary and paying closer attention to word forms and spelling will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I have been suffered' (should be 'I have been suffering'), 'It might be affect' (should be 'It might affect'), and 'If I am not enough get sleep' (should be 'If I do not get enough sleep'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally make the text difficult to follow. To improve, focus on mastering basic verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
