Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the problem, the impact on your studies, and the desired action. However, the tone is inconsistent and inappropriate for a letter to a neighbour. While you explain that the music is a disturbance, the final paragraph includes a threat ('Otherwise we will take action against you'), which is overly aggressive and fails to maintain the polite, cooperative tone expected in a formal or semi-formal letter. To improve, ensure your tone remains respectful throughout, even when expressing frustration, to better achieve the communicative purpose of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. However, the logical progression is sometimes hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward transitions. For example, you mention the impact on your studies in the first, second, and third paragraphs, which makes the flow feel disjointed rather than cumulative. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'please stop it' and 'please stop doing this'. Using a wider variety of linking words and avoiding unnecessary repetition would improve the overall flow and clarity of your message.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'listen', 'stop', and 'bother'. There are also some errors in word choice and form, such as 'grate' instead of 'great', 'disturbs' used incorrectly as a verb in 'I am disturbs', and 'concentration' used instead of the verb 'concentrate'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to noise complaints, such as 'excessive noise', 'disruptive', or 'considerate', and ensure you are using the correct parts of speech.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You have several grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'my annual examination started from Monday' (should be 'started on Monday' or 'begins on Monday'), 'I am disturbs' (should be 'I am disturbed'), and 'I can't concentration' (should be 'I cannot concentrate'). Additionally, the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and capital letters after full stops. Increasing your control over basic verb tenses and word forms will significantly improve your score.
