Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the problem is identified, the impact on studies is explained, and a request for action is made. However, the tone is somewhat aggressive and inappropriate for a letter to a neighbour, which affects the overall task response. The purpose is clear, but the development of ideas is slightly repetitive. To improve, ensure the tone is more polite and diplomatic, as this is a standard requirement for formal correspondence in IELTS General Training tasks. The content is relevant, but the expression of ideas could be more nuanced to better suit the context of a polite request to a new neighbour.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Infect' is used incorrectly (likely intended as 'In fact'), and the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt. The logical progression is present, but the flow is hindered by awkward phrasing and limited linking words. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'as a result' to connect ideas more naturally and improve the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several word-choice errors, such as 'concern about' instead of 'write to express my concern regarding', 'silent atmosphere' instead of 'quiet environment', and 'society head' which is not standard English for a landlord or building manager. The range is limited, and some phrases are repetitive. To reach a higher band, focus on learning collocations related to noise complaints and formal requests. Avoid using informal or incorrect terminology and try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary to convey your message with greater clarity and professional tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'which is also affected on my studies' (incorrect passive voice), 'I can not deeply concentration' (incorrect verb form), and 'listen music' (missing preposition 'to'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve accuracy.
