Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear harsimran
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about the disturbance caused by loud music. I am preparing for my semester exams nowadays and the loud music disturbs me a lot. This continuously happening from past one week. Even, i talked you with your son about this matter but he do not take any actions.
Moreover, i only have night time to study and prepare for my exams because i am doing work at day times.
I would appreciate if this problem will solve as soon as possible. You can listen music in low volume so that i will concentrate on my studies and have better sleep at night. I look forward your response.
Best regards
Sakshi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the problem, the impact on your studies, and the requested action. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which limits the development of your ideas. While the tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, the brevity prevents you from fully expanding on the situation or providing a more polite, persuasive tone. To improve, you should aim to elaborate on your feelings or the specific nature of your upcoming exams to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the letter is compressed, which makes it harder to follow. The transition between the problem and the requested action is somewhat abrupt. To reach a higher band, ensure you use a wider range of linking words and maintain clear paragraph breaks to separate your points, which will improve the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on simple phrases like 'loud music' and 'disturbs me a lot'. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'doing work at day times' instead of 'working during the day'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Using more precise language will help convey your message more effectively and demonstrate a better command of English vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. For example, 'This continuously happening from past one week' should be 'This has been happening continuously for the past week'. Additionally, 'he do not take any actions' should be 'he did not take any action'. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. To improve, focus on using a mix of complex sentences and ensure correct subject-verb agreement and tense usage. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms will significantly improve your score.
