Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear MR. Singh,

Well come to our friendly neighborhood. I hope everything is going well. I am writing to discuss a issue caused by the late night music played at your house.

Currently, I am a neuro-science final-year student, and my examinations are in the end of this moth. Since, it includes really tough subjects such as neurochemistry and neuroanatomy, it requires strong concentration and focus to understand. However, loud music coming from your house effects my focus significantly. It is making hard for me to be prepared for exams.

I would really appreciate if you could take an appropriate actions to stop your children playing music loudly at night. I understand they have nigh only time to enjoy after busy day at school, therefore I would like to recommend you to by some videos games for them. These video games helps in cognitive development along with fun.

I hope you understand and take some steps to improve the situation.

Your faithfully,

Rahul

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly explain the problem (late-night music), the impact on your studies (difficulty concentrating for exams), and propose a specific solution (suggesting video games). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour. However, the suggestion to buy video games for the children is slightly unusual and could be perceived as intrusive or patronizing in a real-world context, which slightly affects the naturalness of the communication. Overall, the task is fully addressed with relevant ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problem from the proposed solution. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'Since', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the slightly awkward phrasing 'Since, it includes really tough subjects'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including subject-specific terms like 'neurochemistry' and 'cognitive development'. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'a issue' (should be 'an issue'), 'moth' (should be 'month'), and 'by' (should be 'buy'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise collocations and ensure consistent accuracy with common vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including 'effects' instead of 'affects', 'in the end of this moth' (should be 'at the end of this month'), and 'take an appropriate actions' (should be 'take appropriate action'). Additionally, the sentence 'It is making hard for me' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors are frequent, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. Increasing your control over basic grammar and articles would significantly improve your score.
