- why it is causing you difficulties
- what action you would like them to take
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Neighbours,
I hope you are doing well, I'm rey staying right next to your flat. Now I am in final year of my degree and semister exams are around the corner.
Most of my day time I spent in the college and the only time I get to study for the test is Nights. But the volume of music is distrubing me to concemtrste on my studies aa well as sleep.
Because of the songs played in such sound it distrubs me a lot. The major problem that affects me to sirt and study for my exams. because of its volume even some times I get headache and nousia as well.
It will be appriciated if the volume of the music keeps lower around the sleeping time for some days, atleast completionof my papers. Or else attachment of sound blockers around the doors and ventilation so that it won't pass through it.
Thankyou for understanding,
Rey.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it identifies the problem (loud music), explains the impact (difficulty studying and health issues), and suggests solutions (lowering volume or soundproofing). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited, and the explanation of the impact could be more detailed to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the reader understands the situation and the requested action without ambiguity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of the message. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices, such as 'Because of' and 'Or else', though these are sometimes used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. The overall structure is coherent, and the message is easy to follow despite some minor awkwardness in sentence transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the necessary information. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'rey' (likely meant 'residing'), 'semister', 'distrubing', 'concemtrste', 'nousia', and 'appriciated'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To improve, the student should focus on accurate spelling and incorporating more precise collocations related to noise complaints and academic pressure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Most of my day time I spent'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('The major problem that affects me to sirt and study for my exams.'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors are frequent, they rarely impede communication, as the meaning remains clear. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips to reach a higher band.
