Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Shah,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this letter to inform you that there is a lot of noise coming from your house, which makes me uncomfortable.
I am facing a tremendous amount of noise pollution from your house. It become on daily basis. Mostly after 10 pm at night, and your house is very close to my house.
Basically, I work as an overnight associate, and I am also studying for my bachelor's degree, but I am having trouble concentrating on my studies and having difficulty to sleep relaxed. Just because of your loud music.
I would kindly request that you please play the music at a normal volume and try to avoid loud music after 10 pm, which will help me to focus on my studies and get better sleep.
I hope you understand my situation.
Best regards,
Harshil Trivedi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: the problem is identified, the impact on your studies and sleep is explained, and a clear request for action is made. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement (147 words), which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the tone is appropriate for a formal letter, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. To improve, you should expand slightly on the specific nature of your examinations or the impact of the noise to ensure you comfortably meet the length requirement and provide a more fully developed response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your points. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Basically' and 'I hope you understand,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the introduction of the problem to the specific impact and finally the proposed solution. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, avoiding short, choppy sentences like 'Just because of your loud music.'
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'tremendous amount' and 'noise pollution.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'It become on daily basis' (should be 'It happens on a daily basis') and 'difficulty to sleep relaxed' (should be 'difficulty sleeping'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations for formal complaints would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'It become on daily basis' (verb tense/preposition error) and 'Just because of your loud music' (a sentence fragment). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence has a clear subject and verb. Increasing your use of error-free complex sentences will help you move into the higher bands.
