Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0

The response is completely off-topic. The task required a letter to a neighbour regarding a noise complaint, but the student wrote an essay discussing the advantages and disadvantages of working for large versus small companies. Because the response fails to address any of the bullet points or the context of the prompt, it cannot be assessed against the requirements of the task. It is a completely irrelevant response to the provided instructions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

While the essay structure itself is logical with clear paragraphing and the use of cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover', the content is entirely disconnected from the task. Within the context of the essay itself, the progression of ideas is clear, but the failure to address the prompt means the coherence is irrelevant to the actual task requirements.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for an essay format, using terms like 'multinational firms', 'career growth', and 'financial resources'. However, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'intensive growth' and 'intensive benefits', which are not natural collocations. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the ideas of the essay, but it does not meet the specific needs of the requested letter-writing task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'some people belive' (spelling), 'the workers who are working' (redundancy), and 'they provides' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not generally impede the reader's understanding of the essay's content, they represent a lack of control over basic grammatical rules. The range of structures is sufficient for an essay, but the accuracy is inconsistent.
