Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing to express my concerns over the loud noise we have been hearing through out the month since you have moved in the apartment last month.
I live with my family in my apartment and for the past month we are been disturbed due to the loud music noise we get to hear particularly during the evenings. I am a University student and I have my final examination scheduled in the next for which I am studying but due to the noise disturbance I am unable to concentrate on my studies.
Furthermore, Whenever start working on something I keep hearing the noise and deeply bothers me and somehow couldn't finish the task. Also, my parents have to talk loudly even when they are in the same room together. In addition, Our grandparents are unable to rest properly due to the noise and their sleep cycle has disturbed.
I request you to lower the noise level when you turn on the music on the speaker phone. Also, I would recommend to wear headphones if you can so that we wouldn't be disturbed at all. However, if the issue persists I will remain with no option but to file a complain with the building management for the disturbance caused.
I hope that my concern will be taken into consideration and I hope that you will follow the recommendations suggested.
Yours faithfully,
Sankalp Diwate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You clearly identified the problem (loud music), explained the impact on your studies and family, and proposed specific actions (lowering volume or using headphones). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter, although the salutation 'Dear Sir/Madam' is slightly generic for a neighbour; 'Dear Neighbour' would have been more natural. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. You have maintained a consistent position throughout, and the letter effectively communicates your frustration while remaining polite enough to be constructive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'However' to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the problem, the impact, and the requested solution. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the slightly confusing phrasing in the second paragraph regarding the timeline. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow and the structure supports the message well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'disturbed', 'concentrate', 'persistence', and 'recommendations'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'speaker phone' (usually just 'speakers' or 'sound system') and 'file a complain' (should be 'file a complaint'). You also use 'through out' as two words, which should be 'throughout'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range to include more precise collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include 'we are been disturbed' (should be 'we have been disturbed'), 'Whenever start working' (missing subject 'I'), and 'sleep cycle has disturbed' (should be 'has been disturbed'). Additionally, there are issues with prepositions and articles, such as 'moved in the apartment' (should be 'moved into the apartment'). While the meaning is always clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of verb tenses and passive voice constructions.
