Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I am writing to express my concerns over the loud noise we have been hearing through out the month since you have moved in the apartment last month.
I live with my family in my apartment and for the past month we are been disturbed due to the loud music noise we get to hear particularly during the evenings. I am a University student and I have my final examination scheduled in the next for which I am studying but due to the noise disturbance I am unable to concentrate on my studies.
Furthermore, Whenever start working on something I keep hearing the noise and deeply bothers me and somehow couldn't finish the task. Also, my parents have to talk loudly even when they are in the same room together. In addition, Our grandparents are unable to rest properly due to the noise and their sleep cycle has disturbed.
I request you to lower the noise level when you turn on the music on the speaker phone. Also, I would recommend to wear headphones if you can so that we wouldn't be disturbed at all. However, if the issue persists I will remain with no option but to file a complain with the building management for the disturbance caused.
I hope that my concern will be taken into consideration and I hope that you will follow the recommendations suggested.
Yours faithfully,
Sankalp Diwate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly identify the problem (loud music), explain the impact on your studies and family life, and propose specific actions (lowering volume or using headphones). The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a neighbour, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed, providing specific examples of how the noise affects your concentration and your family's daily routine. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing salutations are consistent; since you used 'Dear Sir/Madam', 'Yours faithfully' is correct, but if you were writing to a specific neighbour, 'Dear [Name]' and 'Yours sincerely' would be more natural.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the situation, starting with the problem, moving to the impact, and concluding with the requested action. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'However' to link your thoughts. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the reader's understanding of your situation. To improve, ensure that referencing is precise; for example, 'the noise' is used effectively, but some sentences could be more tightly connected to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully conveying your message. You use relevant terms such as 'disturbed', 'concentrate', 'persistence', and 'management'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'moved in the apartment' (should be 'moved into') and 'file a complain' (should be 'file a complaint'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that you distinguish between noun and verb forms, such as 'complaint' versus 'complain'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'we are been disturbed' (should be 'we have been disturbed'), 'Whenever start working' (missing subject 'I'), and 'their sleep cycle has disturbed' (should be 'has been disturbed'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. You attempt to use complex sentences, but the control is inconsistent. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. Proofreading for small omissions, like missing pronouns or incorrect auxiliary verbs, will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
