Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining the problem (loud music), the impact (difficulty studying and sleeping), and the desired action (stopping the music). The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a neighbour, although it leans slightly towards being overly formal in some places and informal in others (e.g., the closing 'Yours Lovely'). The ideas are clear and relevant, though they could be developed with more specific detail to reach a higher band. The purpose of the letter is clear from the outset, and the reader is left in no doubt about the situation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The use of cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' helps to guide the reader through the text. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, although there are minor issues with sentence flow, such as the transition between the impact on sleep and the request for action. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the structure is appropriate for a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'disturbances' and 'concentrate', but there are also several word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'complaint you' (should be 'complain to you') and 'give some efforts' (should be 'make an effort'). The phrase 'Yours Lovely' is an inappropriate closing for a letter to a neighbour. While the range is sufficient to communicate the main points, the errors in collocation and word choice prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('music... which make disturbances'), incorrect verb forms ('recently move' instead of 'recently moved'), and awkward phrasing ('I cannot be able to'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical structures. A greater focus on proofreading for basic tense and agreement errors would improve the score.
