Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining the problem, the impact on your studies, and the requested action. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of your ideas. While the purpose of the letter is clear, the brevity prevents you from fully expanding on the situation or providing a more polite, nuanced tone expected in a formal letter to a neighbour. To improve, ensure you elaborate on your points to meet the length requirement, which will allow for a more comprehensive and professional response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the problem and your request is abrupt. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, which makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. To achieve a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in addition to this') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall progression of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and contains several errors in word formation and collocation. For instance, you use 'loudly play music' instead of 'loud music' and 'earbirds' instead of 'earplugs'. There are also spelling errors such as 'concuntrate' and 'suggetion'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and you struggle to use more precise or academic terms that would be appropriate for a formal letter. Focusing on learning common collocations and checking your spelling will help you improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I am writing to this letter inform to you' and 'my university examination held soon'. These errors, combined with issues in sentence structure and tense usage, occasionally impede the clarity of your message. You rely almost exclusively on simple sentences, with very few attempts at complex structures. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb forms and prepositions, and then work on incorporating complex sentences to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
