Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Johan,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you about the new tenant besides my room who always distract my studies due to his loud musics until midnight.
I am Vergel Lozano, tenant at room 123 on your appartment. I have a new neighbor here who recently move last week on your flat. He always have a visitor until midnight and they arehaving a house party most of the week. It annoys me a lot because I cannot sleep at night and I need to wake up early because my class starts at 7:00 am. I am having a hard time doing my reviews pn the subject that I will take exam this coming end of the month. I would appreciate it if you could settle this matter and that the room next to mine will not be offended. I hope you could write him a letter to inform regarding my issue and maybe stop his wrong doing late at night. Thank you for your kind consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Vergel Lozano

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the problem, describing the impact on your studies, and suggesting a solution. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a landlord. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention the noise, providing more specific details about the nature of the music or the frequency of the disturbances would have strengthened the response. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader understands exactly what you are requesting. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded upon with slightly more detail to fully develop the situation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure, starting with a clear opening, moving to the problem, and concluding with a request for action. Paragraphing is present, though the body of the letter is somewhat condensed. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'because' and 'therefore' (implied), but the flow could be improved with more varied transition words. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, such as the transition between introducing yourself and describing the neighbor's behavior. Improving the use of linking phrases would help the ideas flow more naturally and demonstrate better control over the organization of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'tenant', 'distract', and 'consideration'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'loud musics' (music is uncountable), 'wrong doing' (which sounds unnatural in this context), and 'reviews' (when 'studying' or 'preparing' would be more accurate). To improve, focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that nouns are used correctly in their singular or plural forms. Expanding your range of descriptive adjectives would also enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'He always have' (should be 'has') and 'they arehaving' (spacing error). There are also tense inconsistencies, such as 'recently move' (should be 'moved'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the response. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, and proofread your work to catch minor mechanical errors like missing spaces or incorrect word forms.
