Student answer (Band 5.5)
dear neighbours,
i hope you are doing well. firstly good to have in my neighbours, i know you are mover in this areas recently and you are also not familiar with this environment. so may be it will take time. A month ago, you just move here and at night time you play music late at night. Before i was manage myself but after some time its effects not only my sleep but also my studies.
However, in the morning time i am also go on my work so due to late night music i cant sleep properly and wake up late. sometimes i also late from my work. one day my two friends came in my room for group study but due to high volume music we are not able to do our study, even they told me you can complaint about this to police but i told them they are new in this area.
so, i have two solutions in order to solve this problem. first is that i can strict action regarding this, i can explain all this problem to our condo management and another , you can solve this by yourself like you play music no doubt i do not have any problem but in low volume which nobody can disturbs.
Thank you.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: explaining the problem (late-night music), the impact (sleep deprivation and study difficulties), and the requested action (lowering the volume). However, the tone is inconsistent and occasionally aggressive, such as the threat to involve the police or management, which is not ideal for a letter to a new neighbour. The ideas are relevant but the development is somewhat repetitive and lacks the appropriate formal or semi-formal tone expected in a letter of complaint. The purpose of the letter is clear, but the expression of the requested action could be more polite and constructive to better suit the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the transition 'However, in the morning time i am also go on my work'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors. While the overall progression of ideas is logical—moving from the problem to the impact and finally to a solution—the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive sentence structure limit the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, relying on basic words like 'problem', 'music', and 'study'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choice, such as 'i am also go on my work' instead of 'I go to work' and 'i can strict action' instead of 'I can take strict action'. The student struggles with collocations, which occasionally forces the reader to infer meaning. To reach a higher band, the student needs to use a wider range of vocabulary and improve their grasp of natural English collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the message. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('you just move here'), subject-verb agreement ('its effects not only my sleep'), and missing articles or prepositions. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'even they told me you can complaint about this to police but i told them they are new in this area'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with frequent misuse of commas and lack of capitalisation for 'I'.
