Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to talk to you about late night loud music.
As you know you move new to my house next door. I have my exams very soon.so i have to spend lot of time on my study at late night to get good scores in the exam. however the loud music make difficult for me to concentrate on my study and its also effect my sleep. I cannot sleep properly and i feel tried on the next morning as well which makes my next day very lazy, so i cannot do study on the next day.
I completely understand that you may want to enjoy your music, but I would really appreciate if you could lower your music volume at night . So i can easily do concerate on my study at night time and also havem enough sleep.
I hope you understand my situation. I look forward to meeting you soon.
Best wishes,
Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: it identifies the problem (loud music), explains the impact (difficulty studying and lack of sleep), and proposes a solution (lowering the volume). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a neighbour. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of why the music is a problem is repetitive, focusing heavily on the inability to study and sleep without adding depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the consequences of these issues or provide more specific details about the situation to make the request more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions like 'so' and 'and'. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Improving the flow by using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'given that') would enhance the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. You use common, everyday words like 'talk', 'good', and 'lazy'. While these are understandable, they do not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'do study' instead of 'study' or 'do my studies'. To improve, try to incorporate more specific vocabulary related to the context of noise complaints and academic pressure, such as 'disturbing', 'academic performance', or 'considerate'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'you move new to my house' (tense/word order error), 'the loud music make difficult' (subject-verb agreement), and 'its also effect my sleep' (confusing 'effect' with 'affect'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy score.
