Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear New Neighbours,
I am writing this letter to share a problem that i faced from the last couple of days.It is regarding the noise coming from you house. It seems like you like to listen music late night that is so loud for others.
Unfortunately, loud music creates disturbance, as my exams starts from the next week.It is dificult for me to study because of the high volume beats, and i could not focus on my preparation.Unlike you, i dont like loud songs. However, i believe others also facing the same issue.Consodering night time is the best time to relax nobody would like to disturb.
Moving to the soultion of this problem, as i know you are new here, i would like to suggest to some tips if you consider. Try to turn down the volume so that no one can face problems or listen music by using earphones in that way you can enjoy as well as others.Last but not least, you can listen loud songs at the afternoon if you want beause that time everyone is buzy.
I hope you consider my problem seriously and think on the solutions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task prompt. The letter begins by clearly explaining the problem of late-night music coming from the neighbours house in the opening paragraph. It then describes why this is causing difficulties, specifically mentioning that exams are starting next week and the high volume prevents studying and sleeping. Finally, constructive actions are suggested, such as turning down the volume, using earphones, or listening to loud music in the afternoon. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to neighbours, although the phrasing becomes slightly overly critical in places like 'Unlike you, i dont like loud songs.' Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with relevant ideas, earning a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear opening salutation and appropriate sign-off structure, although the final sign-off is cut off ('Your'). The response is divided into logical paragraphs covering the problem, the consequences, and the solutions. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in phrases like 'Moving to the soultion of this problem' and the repetitive use of simple transitional links. Referencing is mostly clear, though some pronouns lack precise antecedent connection. Paragraphing is used, but punctuation errors around paragraph breaks and sentence boundaries detract slightly from the overall flow. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but demonstrates noticeable limitations and spelling errors. The writer attempts less common phrases such as 'high volume beats' and 'Consodering night time', but commits spelling mistakes ('soultion', 'buzy', 'Consodering', 'dificult') and minor word-choice errors ('share a problem that i faced from the last couple of days'). While communication is not impeded and the reader easily grasps the meaning, the frequency of lexical inaccuracies and lack of more sophisticated phrasing prevent the response from reaching Band 7. It fits comfortably within the Band 6 criteria for lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative structures (e.g., 'Try to turn down the volume so that no one can face problems'). However, there are frequent errors in grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. Examples include lowercase 'i' used independently, missing commas, run-on sentences ('house. It', 'music late night'), and tense inconsistencies ('as my exams starts'). Although these errors do not seriously impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. The presence of these frequent grammatical and punctuation slips points directly to a Band 5.5 score.
