Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The problem is clearly explained as the new neighbours playing loud music late at night. The difficulties are highlighted through the impact on the student's studies and the grandfather's health. Furthermore, the desired action is communicated, asking the society secretary to inform the neighbours about the issue. However, the tone and format of the letter are slightly confused, as it is addressed to 'Dear sir' yet asks the 'society sectory' to intervene rather than addressing the neighbours directly or maintaining a consistent recipient, which aligns this performance closely with a Band 5.5 to 6.0 level. Ideas are relevant, but the development lacks polish and the purpose shifts slightly mid-letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter lacks appropriate paragraphing and is essentially structured as two massive, dense blocks of text rather than standard letter paragraphs. Cohesive devices are minimal, basic, and sometimes awkward, such as 'i just want explain you' and 'also that time'. Logical progression is hindered by run-on sentences and a lack of proper punctuation. For instance, the second paragraph rushes from studying to grandfathers going to sleep, and straight into suggesting action to the society secretary without clear signposting or transition markers. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the flow of ideas smoothly. Overall, the structural organization falls short of Band 6 requirements.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'bad habbits', 'loud music', and 'problem', struggling with correct word choices and collocations. Examples like 'effecting my study' (affecting) and 'peace environment' (peaceful environment) demonstrate inadequate control over word forms and parts of speech. There are also noticeable spelling and vocabulary errors, such as 'sectory' instead of 'secretary', 'considration' instead of 'consideration', and 'fathfully' instead of 'faithfully'. While communication is generally achieved, the numerous lexical inaccuracies constrain the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammatical range is quite limited, relying mostly on simple and flawed complex sentences connected by basic conjunctions. There is a complete absence of capitalization for the pronoun 'i' throughout the text, and punctuation is largely neglected, resulting in run-on sentences like 'i am writing a letter regarding a letter about my new neighbours behaviour which creates difficulties for society members and for me also.' Frequent grammatical errors—such as tense confusion ('when i starting', 'as i am since i joining'), omission of auxiliary verbs ('they are new in society and they are playing so loud music'), and incorrect prepositions—impede readability and cause strain for the reader, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
