Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task: it explains the problem with the music playing late at night, describes the difficulty it causes regarding sleep and upcoming examinations, and requests that the neighbours stop playing music after 10 o'clock. However, the response falls short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 125 words. This under-length limitation restricts the development of ideas, preventing the response from achieving a higher band score despite covering all necessary parts of the prompt. Phrases like "I am writing about play music late nigh" attempt to address the core requirements, but the brevity prevents full elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter follows a conventional format with a salutation and a sign-off, and the overall progression of ideas is generally understandable. However, paragraphing is somewhat disjointed and lacks clear logical flow between sentences. For example, sentences such as "I am happy and most welcome to become my neighbour" are confusingly placed at the beginning, and transitions between the problem and the requested action are abrupt. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate, such as using "However, I have request" without appropriate grammatical linking. Referencing is occasionally unclear, which forces the reader to work harder to follow the intended meaning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, typical of a lower band level. The student relies heavily on simple words and makes notable errors in word choice and collocation, such as "about play music late nigh" instead of "about playing music late at night" and "doing concerating" instead of "concentrating". Words like "examination month" and "study" are repeated frequently due to a limited range of synonyms. While the meaning is generally communicated despite spelling and lexical inaccuracies, the lack of control over less common vocabulary keeps the lexical score constrained.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical errors include "yor are doing well", "most welcome to become my neighbour", and "I am disturbing and not doing concerating". Punctuation is also problematic, with missing commas and periods causing run-on thoughts. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and impede smooth reading comprehension, placing the response firmly in the lower-middle bands.
