Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response partially addresses all parts of the task by explaining that you have exams next week and that late-night music is causing disruptions to your sleep and studies. However, some bullet points are under-developed or unclear, such as the request for action which is phrased awkwardly. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 144 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. To reach a higher level, you should fully develop every part of the prompt with greater detail and ensure the word count requirement is satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation with paragraphs separating the introduction, body points, suggestions, and sign-off, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are repetitive or inadequate, as seen with repeated connectors like 'Firstly' and 'Furthermore'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance when switching pronouns between the neighbours and singular forms. To improve, you should use a wider variety of cohesive links and ensure logical transitions between your sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'informed' instead of 'inform', 'lound voice' instead of 'loud volume', and 'gathering voice'. Spelling and word form inaccuracies appear throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you should expand your range of vocabulary and learn correct collocations associated with formal letter-writing and everyday complaints.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, and attempts at complex structures are often faulty, such as in the clause 'I don't want because of this reason I failed in exam'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and agreements, including 'have exams next week because of your late night music' and 'have't concentrate'. These errors cause frequent difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and reducing grammatical errors.
