Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You successfully address all three bullet points required in the task instructions by explaining the problem regarding the loud music, describing how it causes difficulties with your studies and work schedule, and requesting specific action from your neighbour. However, some of these ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, while you mention that you work part-time during the day and study at night, the connection between the noise and your upcoming Master's examinations could be expanded further to provide a fully rounded picture of your situation. Your tone is appropriately semi-formal for a letter to a neighbour, maintaining a polite request throughout despite the frustrating circumstances. To move up to a higher level, you need to extend and support your ideas more thoroughly, ensuring every point is fully elaborated with specific details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
Your letter shows some organisation with a recognizable opening and closing, and a clear attempt to structure your points into logical sections. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the transitions between your ideas feel a bit disjointed. For example, moving abruptly from your studies to your part-time work and then back to a request lacks smooth cohesive links. Furthermore, paragraphing is underdeveloped; the main body of the letter is grouped together rather than separated into distinct paragraphs for the problem, its impact, and the desired solution. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, leading to a mechanical feel. To improve in this area, you should use clear paragraph breaks for each main idea and employ a wider range of appropriate transition words to guide the reader effortlessly through your letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a basic personal request. You attempt some functional phrases, but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word formation that cause some difficulty for the reader. For example, 'writting' and 'infrom' contain spelling mistakes, while 'addminstartion', 'appriticated', and 'cooprate' show persistent issues with word forms. Additionally, phrases like 'bread and butter' and 'screen time' are used in contexts that do not precisely fit your intended meaning regarding late-night music and work. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your lexical repertoire, use less common vocabulary with greater precision regarding style and collocation, and carefully check your spelling and word forms before finalizing your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your response relies on a very limited range of sentence structures, primarily consisting of simple sentences and basic combinations. When you attempt more complex structures, they are frequently faulty, such as in the greeting 'I hope this letter find you in a radiant health a the best of spirit' and the clause 'because of loud noise coming from your home.' There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'i doing Master of business' and 'adjust your screen time in a day time.' These errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader. To progress, you must demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence forms with improved control over basic grammar, verb agreements, and punctuation.
