Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the task prompt: you explain the problem with the late-night music, detail how it negatively impacts your sleep and university studies, and clearly state what action you would like your neighbours to take by suggesting they use earphones or lower the volume. The tone is appropriate for an informal or semi-formal letter to a neighbour. However, some ideas show a tendency to be slightly repetitive, such as reiterating that the music affects your studies and sleep multiple times without significantly extending the explanation. To reach the highest bands, the ideas could be developed with greater depth and specific detail rather than restated, showing a fully articulated position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable beginning, middle, and end, successfully fulfilling the communicative purpose. Paragraphing is used to separate the greeting, introduction, problem explanation, suggested solution, and sign-off. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or relies heavily on basic linking phrases such as 'As a result'. Referencing could also be smoother, as some sentences are chained together with commas rather than being clearly separated or logically connected. To progress further, you should aim for more varied and sophisticated cohesive devices and ensure that paragraph transitions are managed with greater precision and natural flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, successfully conveying the basic message about the noise issue and your academic struggles. You attempt some less common vocabulary related to the context, such as 'leisure time', 'university', and 'activities'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies that appear throughout the text, including 'writting' instead of 'writing', 'hard' instead of 'is hard', 'adjusting stuff according', and 'responce' instead of 'response'. These lexical errors show a limited range and some spelling issues, which prevent the vocabulary score from reaching higher levels. Utilizing more precise phrasing and checking your spelling carefully will help elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'I know moving is hard and it will take time to adjusting stuff according'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with verb forms, gerunds after prepositions ('take time to adjusting' instead of 'take time to adjust'), capitalization ('i'), and run-on sentences joined incorrectly with commas. While these grammatical slips do not completely impede communication, they are common enough to limit the overall accuracy score. To improve, you should focus on mastering infinitive and gerund patterns, article usage, and ensuring that independent clauses are punctuated correctly with periods or appropriate conjunctions.
