Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Sharma,
I am writting this letter to inform you that i have a exam in upcoming week and i am getting disturb when you play music at mid night.
My name is Tajinder Singh and i am living next to your house. I am studing in senior secondry class and i have a exam in next 7 days. There are lots of problems i faced in study because you play loud music at night, due to that i am unable to sleep properly as well as pay proper attenshion while study.
This exam is very important for me. i have been perparing for exam last nine months. It should be better if you reduce the sound of the music. As a result, i can sleep properly and prepare for my exams.
I hope you understand my problem and coprate with me.
Best regards,
Tajinder Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required by the task: you explain the problem regarding the late-night music, why it causes difficulties for your studies and sleep, and you suggest an action for them to take. However, the response falls slightly short of the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, coming in at 146 words. Additionally, while all parts of the prompt are addressed, some ideas are slightly under-developed, such as the exact consequences of the lack of sleep on your preparation. To reach a higher band, you should ensure the response fully meets the length requirement and expands further on the impact of the disruption with greater detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement, and the purpose of your communication is clear from the beginning. You use standard letter formatting and divide your thoughts into logical paragraphs, such as introducing yourself and stating the problem, followed by the consequences and the requested action. However, cohesion can sometimes feel a bit mechanical or repetitive in transitions between sentences, such as the repeated use of 'and' and 'due to that'. To improve, you can employ a wider variety of cohesive devices and referencing words to connect your ideas more smoothly and naturally throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'upcoming week' and 'prepare for my exams'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the response, such as 'writting' instead of writing, 'disturb' instead of disturbed, 'secondry' instead of secondary, 'attenshion' instead of attention, 'perparing' instead of preparing, and 'coprate' instead of cooperate. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to highlight limitations in your lexical control. To achieve a higher band, you must improve your spelling accuracy and use more precise lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as 'It should be better if you reduce the sound of the music.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including capitalization issues like 'i' instead of 'I', articles ('have a exam' instead of 'have an exam'), and prepositions ('perparing for exam' instead of 'preparing for the exam'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater grammatical accuracy and ensure careful proofreading of basic articles and pronouns.
