Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the central problem—music late at night—and explain that it affects your exam preparation and your family’s sleep. You also make a request to reduce the speaker’s volume, so the main purpose is understandable. However, the task is only partly developed: the exact impact on your studies is stated generally, and the requested action is not fully clear or specific. For example, “pay attention in this case” does not explain what you want the neighbours to do, while “reduce the volume” could be made more precise by asking them to turn it down after a particular time. The opening also spends space on greetings and “unwritten rules” rather than establishing the concern directly. Develop the reasons and request more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a recognisable format, with a greeting, explanation of the issue, request, and closing. The reader can follow the broad sequence from the noise to its effects and your appeal. However, ideas are crowded into long sentences, and the overall progression is not consistently clear. The opening combines several unrelated points, while the main paragraph moves quickly from the time of the noise to exams, study, family sleep, and a general request. Linking phrases such as “so” do not always show the relationship precisely, and the final request is difficult to interpret. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, problem and effects, and requested action, with clear transitions between them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “noise,” “during the night,” “exams,” “study,” and “reduce the volume,” which helps communicate the main concern. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the letter difficult to understand, such as “wirting,” “unwriten,” “collaboration,” “volum,” and “effects my study.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear, including “I wish this letter will come to you soon” and “your respectful and neighbourhood.” Aim for accurate, natural phrases suited to a polite complaint, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary for the noise and its consequences would help you express the issue without relying on general wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses, for example in “I send this letter to ask for your collaboration to reduce the volume … because it really effects my study,” but long sentences are often not controlled successfully. The opening joins several independent ideas with commas, creating a run-on sentence. There are also recurring problems with verb forms and sentence construction, such as “I wish this letter will come to you soon” and “I have heard the noise … and it’s over 10pm.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including the lowercase “you know” after a full stop. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Use shorter, complete sentences first, then add a few accurately formed complex sentences.
