Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mohan,
I'm writing this letter as your neighbour from next door to just let you know about the issue regarding noise that bothers me for my upcoming test.
So, recently I have booked my IELTS examination which is in next two weeks. I am working full time shift from 9 to 5, while I'm styding during a night and evening hours becuase I aims for CLB 9 in result on a serious note. But, becuase of loud music at late night is bothering me and I'm gettong distracted and not able to concentrate in prepration becuase it needs clear background noise for certain modules like Listening and Speaking on online plateform.
I am not asking to stop enjoying in your life but just requesting to stop playing music at certain hours like untill 12PM. So, I can able to prepare well for my exam and this is just two weeks adjusment that I'm seeking from you. I would really appritiated, if you could undertand my situation.
Your faithfully,
Dharmik

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three points: you identify late-night music as the problem, explain that it disrupts your exam preparation and sleep, and request that it stop during certain hours for the next two weeks. The specific context of working from 9 to 5 and preparing for IELTS makes the difficulty understandable. The request is polite and your purpose is clear. However, the explanation focuses more on distraction during study than on the effect on sleep, and the proposed time is unclear: “until 12PM” could mean midday rather than midnight. To develop the response further, state a clear quiet-time request and explain briefly how the noise affects your rest as well as your preparation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible overall order: opening and purpose, explanation of the problem, then a request and closing. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “So” and “But” signal relationships between ideas. The progression is generally easy to follow, though some linking feels conversational or mechanical, and the long middle paragraph combines work hours, study needs, and the effects of noise without clearly separating them. The reference to “certain hours like until 12PM” also leaves the request imprecise. For stronger cohesion, use more direct transitions and organise the explanation into shorter, clearly focused sentences, while making the requested quiet period explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and make a polite request, including “upcoming test,” “distracted,” “concentrate,” and “requesting.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “CLB 9” and “Listening and Speaking,” which suit the context. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “styding,” “prepration,” “appritiated,” and “undertand.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, such as “clear background noise” and “stop enjoying in your life.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for making requests and describing noise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a contrast introduced by “while.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “I am working full time shift from 9 to 5” has an incomplete article and awkward structure, while “I aims” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. In “because of loud music at late night is bothering me,” the sentence structure is faulty, and “I can able to prepare” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Practise accurate verb forms, articles, and sentence construction, especially when joining reasons and results. Shorter sentences would help you control these structures.
